For the first time since the metal-core movement, metal has become exciting again with new and upcoming artists for old school fans. I am talking of course about the second wave of thrash-metal. With so many hard and heavy hitting bands like Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust and so on, another new band has emerged with a debut record and a sound that stands out. What would you get if Pantera and Testament cross breed? You would get Lazarus A.D. "The Onslaught" is the bands first release and a very strong one at that. Hailing from Wisconsin, Lazarus A.D. formed in 2005 and on March 3rd, the full on assault called "The Onslaught " will see the light of day with a darkened sound. Upon first listen, I threw in "The Onslaught" as background noise and about two or three songs in, I paused with what I was doing and as my ears perked up, Lazarus A.D. had full aggression and my full attention. With distinctive riffs, shredding solos and non-stop double bass with plenty of groove, speed and talent, "The Onslaught" has all the right ingredients for a raw honest thrash attack. Vocally, Lazarus A.D. has harsh, raspy, mid pitched screams, accompanied by death-metal backup vocals. A few songs that stand out on "The Onslaught", is the second track entitled, "Though shall not fear". It opens with a chunky break down then goes into a vicious riff that just sounds menacing. Another track I kept listing to over and over again was "Lust" with some impressive time signatures and catchy groove accompanied by high pitched and penatonic guitar solos and the closing track, "This is who I really am". Any true fan of metal is going to enjoy Lazarus A.S's "The Onslaught". This is just the beginning for Lazarus and they could not have gotten of to a better start. For me personally, "The Onslaught" is CD that I can listen from start to finish and it will not be collecting dust anytime soon. The Onslaught gets a "Sonic assault on the senses" and just crushes.
